Description

This is a charming little Edwardian Sterling Silver Trinket Dish in the shape of a Heart. The dish has a domed heart shaped base whilst the body and rim are embossed with swags and scrolls. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The trinket dish was made in Birmingham by silversmith William Devenport and dates to 1909. William Devenport founded his firm in the early 1890s in the heart of Birmingham's famous Jewellery Quarter. Quickly successful, the company produced a huge range of silverware. After William's death in the early 1930s, the company became William Devenport & Co and remained in business into the early 1950s.

Condition is very good, with just one truly tiny ding where the body rises from the base and the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 110 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The dish is 6.3cm / 2.5ins top to bottom, 5.5cm / 2.2ins across and 1.4cm / 0.55ins deep. It weighs 5.9g / 0.21oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the underside of the rim, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter k for 1909 and the W.D makers' mark for William Devenport.
