Description

This is an attractive George V Sterling Silver Napkin Ring. The ring is capstan style with beaded upper and lower rims. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The napkin ring was made in Birmingham by silversmiths Sydney & Co and dates to 1926. Sydney & Co was founded by Judah, Albert & Lionel Ahronsberg in around 1900 at premises in Powell Street in Birmingham. They produced an extensive range of small silverware for personal and domestic use and also made a range of trophy cups. The firm was very successful and remained in business until around the mid 1970s.

Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents and just the minimal superficial surface wear that has to be expected with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The napkin ring is 4.5cm / 1.8ins in diameter and 2.2cm / 0.87ins deep. It weighs in at 8.3g / 0.29oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the side of the body, are a little rubbed but still easy to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter B for 1926 and the S & Co makers' mark for Sydney & Co.
