Description

This is an elegant early 19th Century Dutch 833 Silver Sugar Spoon. The spoon has a pointed bowl, a high arching stem and engraved trailing flower decoration surrounding a blank cartouche at the top of the stem.

The sugar spoon was made in the Netherlands by Johannes Hendrikus Bouscholten and assayed in The Hague in 1820. Johannes Bouscholten was active in The Hague between 1814 and 1842.

Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents and just the most minimal superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 200 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The spoon is 13.1cm / 5.1ins long and weighs in at 9.6g / 0.34oz of solid silver.

The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant above the no.2 for 833/1000 grade silver, the minerva's head assay mark with a C on the helmet for The Hague, the date letter L. for 1820 and the B 38 in a square makers' mark for Johannes Hendrikus Bouscholten.
