Description

This is a romantic Edwardian Sterling Silver Napkin Ring in the shape of a heart. The ring has plain sides with rolled top and bottom rims. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The napkin ring was made in Birmingham by renowned silversmiths Levi & Salaman and dates to 1901. Founded by Phineas Levi and Joseph Salaman in 1870, Levi & Salaman quickly established a reputation for high quality silverware and remained in business for fifty years until they were merged into Barker Brothers in 1921.

Condition is good with just a couple of truly tiny dings in the body and one each in the top and bottom rims, also very small along with the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 120 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The napkin ring is 5.3cm / 2.1ins top to bottom, 5cm / 1.9ins across and 2cm / 0.79ins deep. It weighs is at a respectable 13.1g / 0.46oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the outside of the body, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter b for 1901 and the L & S makers' mark for Levi & Salaman.
