Description

This is an attractive George V Sterling Silver Mustard Pot with its original Blue Glass Liner. The pot is oval with a pierced body, an angled handle and a domed lid with an urn shaped finial. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The mustard pot was made by Haseler & Bill of Birmingham and assayed in Chester in 1920. Haseler & Bill was the successor company to Haseler Brothers, founded by Edward John Haseler and Noble Haseler in Birmingham in 1888. They primarily produced good quality tableware although their mark is also seen on perfume bottles. They manufactured in Birmingham and had a showroom in London’s prestigious Hatton Garden district. After Noble Haseler died in 1919, Edward formed a new partnership with C. Bill and the company became known as Haseler & Bill and continued into the late 1920s.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, no damage to the pierced section and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. There are no chips or cracks in the glass liner. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The mustard pot measures 8.5cm / 3.3ins from rim to handle, 3.8cm / 1.5ins across and 6.3cm / 2.5ins high. Without the glass liner, it weighs in at a very respectable 66.2g / 2.3oz of solid Sterling Silver and all together it weighs 131.5g / 4.6oz.

The hallmarks, on the upper part of the body near the handle, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the sword & 3 wheatsheaves assay mark for Chester, the date letter U for 1920 and the EJH over CB makers' mark for Haseler & Bill. There is an additional partial set of marks in the lid showing the lion passant, the date letter and the makers' mark.

Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the mustard pot.
