Description

This is a beautifully decorated George V Sterling Silver teaspoon from just after the First World War. The spoon was made in Sheffield by Joseph Rodgers & Sons Ltd. Joseph Rodgers & Sons was a famous firm of cutlers and silversmiths who manufactured in Sheffield and had a showroom in London's Holborn Viaduct. Founded in 1862 they were in business up until 1939 but did not survive the Second World War.

This teaspoon is in a standard fiddle pattern but this has been elegantly engraved with a crosshatch and ribbon design and in the cartouche are the initials "LMM". These really make it something a little more special than a run of the mill teaspoon.

This is a well made spoon in a good gauge of silver. Condition is good with no dings or dents and just the superficial wear you would expect after 100 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The teaspoon is 13cm long and weighs in at a substantial 20.9g.
The hallmarks on the reverse of the stem are well struck and clear to read. They are the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter "b" for 1919 and the distinctive JR with a star and cross makers' mark for Joseph Rodgers & Sons Ltd.
