Description

This is a good quality George V Sterling Silver Mustard Pot with its original Blue Glass Liner. The mustard pot is oval with pierced sides and stands on four bun feet. The thumb rest is shell shaped. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The mustard pot is made in Birmingham by silversmiths Docker & Burn and dates to 1928. Docker & Burn registered their mark at the Birmingham assay office in 1920 and primarily produced silver tableware and flatware throughout the 1920s. They ceased trading around 1930, probably victims of the economic crash of the period.

Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents in the silver, no damage to the pierced gallery and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after use and the passage of time. There are no chips or cracks in the blue glass liner and the pot sits without rocking on its four bun feet. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The mustard pot is 7.2cm / 2.8ins from rim to handle, 4.3cm / 1.7ins across and stands 4.4cm / 1.7ins high. Without the glass liner it weighs in at 30.8g / 1.08oz of solid Sterling Silver and all together it weighs 54.8g / 1.93oz.

The hallmarks, on the underside of the base, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter D for 1928 and the D & B makers' mark for Docker & Burn.
