Description

This is a distinctively Art Deco design Sterling Silver Toast Rack from the 1930s. It's made in Birmingham by William Suckling Ltd and dates to the height of the Deco era in 1933.

William Suckling Ltd were formed in Birmingham in the early 1920s and carried on in business up until the mid-1960s. Like many silversmiths they had premises in Birmingham's famous Jewellery Quarter in Vyse Street and Albion Street.

With its geometric arched design and clean lines, this 4 slice toast rack is very much of its time. Condition is good with no dings or dents and it sits nice and steadily on a flat surface. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The rack is 7.5cm long, 4.8cm wide and 7.4cm high to the top of the handle. It weighs a respectable 55.1g of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the long side of the toast rack are well struck and very clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "J" for 1933 and the S Ld makers' mark for William Suckling Ltd.
