Description

This is a good pair of George III Sterling Silver Salt Spoons in the classic Old English pattern. The spoons have oval bowls and arching stems. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The salt spoons are made in London by silversmith Thomas Dicks and date to 1813. Thomas Dicks was a specialist spoon maker who registered his first mark at Goldsmiths Hall in 1792. He was joined in partnership by his son James Dicks in 1821 and they carried on together until Thomas' death in 1832.

Condition is good with no dings or dents, no salt corrosion and just a slight kink in the arching stem on one spoon plus the superficial surface wear that you would expect after 210 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

Each salt spoon is 10.5cm / 4.1ins long and the pair together weigh in at a respectable 17.0g / 0.6oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the undersides of the stems, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the London date letter S for 1813, the George III duty mark and the T.D makers' mark for Thomas Dicks.
