Description

This is an attractive pair of small early 20th century Sterling Silver Salt Spoons. The spoons have shell shaped bowls, straight stems and ball finials. One spoon has a gilded bowl and the other is plain silver, so it is possible the gilded one was for salt and the plain one for mustard.

The spoons are marked with W.H.L and ST. SIL. This is most likely the mark for William Henry Leather of Birmingham and the spoons are stamped Sterling Silver because they were either for export or were part of a larger condiment set that was fully hallmarked. W.H. Leather were founded in the 1890s and remained in business up until the late 1920s.

Condition is good, with no dings or dents. There is some wear to the gold plating on the gilded bowl. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

As above, the underside of the stems are stamped W.H.L, almost certainly the mark of William Henry Leather, and ST. SIL for Sterling Silver.
