Description

Here we have an elegant pair of slender Edwardian Cut Glass Vases with Sterling Silver rims. The vases are deep cut with a star pattern around the bases, waist bands of hatched hexagons and deep triangular shapes below the silver rims.

The vases are hallmarked in Birmingham for Hammond, Creake & Co and date to 1905. The firm was founded in Sheffield by Saint Arnaud Creake in 1892 and by 1895 had the name Hammond, Creake & Co, although the identity of Hammond remains a mystery. Creake died in 1928 and the firm ceased trading around the mid-1930s.

Condition is very good, with no chips or cracks in the glass and just a few little dings in the silver rims. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The vases each stand 18.5cm / 7.3ins high and are 5.5cm / 2.1ins in diameter. The pair together weigh in at 799g / 28.2oz.

The hallmarks, on the sides of the silver rims, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter f for 1905 and the S A C in a trefoil makers' mark for Saint Arnaud Creake of Hammond, Creake & Co.
