Description

Here we have a stylish Art Deco Sterling Silver Two Handled Bowl. The bowl is octagonal with a low pedestal base and flat pierced handles on either side of the top rim. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The bowl is made in Birmingham by silversmiths Joseph Gloster Ltd and dates to 1931. Joseph Gloster founded his company at the Lion Silver Works in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter in 1880. They quickly established a reputation for good quality silverware and produced a very wide range of items for the next one hundred years.

Condition is extremely good, with no dings, dents or damage and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after 90 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The bowl measures 15.2cm / 6ins from handle to handle, 10.3cm / 4ins in diameter and stands 4.5cm / 1.8ins high. It weighs in at a very respectable 89.5g / 3.1oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, one one of the handles, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter G for 1931 and the J.G Ltd makers' mark for Joseph Gloster Ltd.

Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the bowl.
