Cased Pair of Silver Napkin Rings, Birmingham 1919
Description
This is a stylish cased pair of George V Sterling Silver Napkin Rings. The rings are D-shaped and plain with no decoration, initials or personalisation of any kind. The box is black leather covered with satin padding in the lid and a blue velvet base holding the two rings. These would make an ideal gift for a wedding, silver wedding, retirement or any special occasion. The napkin rings are made in Birmingham just after the First World War in 1919. They are made by a firm of silversmiths who are simply known as W S. There is very little information about them but they were active from 1919 until at least the end of the 1920s and seem to have specialised in napkin rings. They are well made items in a good gauge of silver.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 100 years of good service. The box has a few little scuff marks, as you would expect, but both the hinges and clasp are in full working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each napkin ring is 4.8cm / 1.9ins across, 3.8cm / 1.5ins high and 2.4cm / 0.94ins deep. The pair together, unboxed, weighs in at a substantial 60.5g / 2.1oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the undersides of the flat bases, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter u for 1919 and the W S makers' mark.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the napkin rings.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
