Description

This is an elegant Edwardian Cut Glass Specimen Vase with a Sterling Silver rim. The glass has a square base with ribbed cuts from which tapers upwards a diamond cut round body topped by the silver rim. This would look beautiful with two or three small flowers in it.

The vase is made by A.W. Pennington in Birmingham and dates to 1907. Arthur Willmore Pennington founded his firm in Birmingham around 1890. He specialised in silverware for personal use, including many pieces of silver mounted glassware such as vases, perfume bottles and dressing table sets. The company remained in business into at least the mid-1920s.

Condition is good with no chips or cracks in the glass and just a little bit of fogging to the inside which disappears when it has water in it. There are a couple of tiny dings in the silver rim but nothing you wouldn't expect after 115 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The vase stands 14cm / 5.5ins high and the base is 4.3cm / 1.7ins square. It weighs in at 148g / 5.2oz.

The hallmarks on the silver rim are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter h for 1907 and the A.W.P makers' mark for A.W. Pennington.
