Description

This is an unusually shaped Art Deco Sterling Silver Napkin Ring with engine turned decoration from the reign of George VI. The Napkin Ring was made in Birmingham in 1947 by silversmiths William Suckling Ltd. William Suckling started up his business in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter in the early 1920s and produced good quality silver tableware and personal items up until the mid-1960s. This is a well made piece in a good gauge of silver.

The Napkin Ring is round but with a flattened base and has engine turned decoration across the curved surface. There is an oblong cartouche on the top which has the initials G.B.H. nicely engraved on it.

Condition is very good with no dings or dents. It would look completely at home on a modern dining table or make a good addition to a collection. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The Napkin Ring is 4.5cm across at its widest and 2.2cm deep. It weighs in at a respectable 23.7g of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, which are well struck and clear to read, are the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "X" for 1947 and the S Ld makers' mark for William Suckling Ltd.
