Art Deco Silver Napkin Ring, Birmingham, 1933

Description

This is a distinctively Art Deco Sterling Silver Napkin Ring with engine turned decoration from the reign of George V. The Napkin Ring was made in Birmingham in 1933 by silversmith T.S. Little is known about T.S. except that he or she or they were working in Birmingham during the 1930s and seem to have principally made tableware. This is a very well made piece in a good heavy gauge of silver.

The Napkin Ring is hexagonal in form with engine turned decoration on all 6 sides. There is a round cartouche on one side which has the initials J.W. elegantly engraved on it.

Condition is very good with no dings or dents. It would look completely at home on a modern dining table or make a good addition to a collection. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The Napkin Ring is 4.5cm across at its widest and 3cm deep. It weighs a substantial 30.3g of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, which are well struck and clear to read, are the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "J" for 1933 and the T S makers' mark for the mysterious silversmith.
