Description

Here we have a fine quality George V Sterling Silver Hip Flask. The flask is curved to fit comfortably into a pocket and has a twist and lock hinged cap with a cork inset to minimise leakage. There is a monogram of the letters P, G and C engraved in a Gothic style on the front of the flask.

The hip flask is made in Birmingham by celebrated silversmiths Deakin & Francis and dates to 1911. The firm traces its origin back to Benjamin Woolfield in 1786. He was joined by Charles Deakin in 1816 and they finally settled as Deakin & Francis in 1881. The company continues to be run by members of the Deakin family and still operates from their original Birmingham premises.

The hip flask has definitely seen some use but remains in very good condition with just a few tiny dings and the superficial surface wear that has to be expected in an item of this age and use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The flask is 10cm / 3.9ins across, 10.3cm / 4ins tall and 2.2cm / 0.87ins deep. It weighs in at a substantial 140.5g / 4.95oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on the front of the body are somewhat rubbed after over 100 years of polishing but can still be read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter m for 1911 and the D & F makers' mark for Deakin & Francis.

Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the hip flask.
