Description

This is an attractive George V Sterling Silver Four Slice Toast Rack. The toast rack is basically oblong with rounded ends, rounded arches, a circular finger ring and scalloped sides. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The toast rack is made in Sheffield by renowned silversmiths Cooper Brothers & Sons and dates to 1929. Founded as Cooper Brothers in 1866, they became Cooper Brothers & Sons Ltd in 1895. The firm is best known for its extensive range of high quality cutlery and flatware but also produced a wide variety of silver tableware. They remained in business up until 1983.

Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 90 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The toast rack is 8.4cm / 3.3ins long, 4.8cm / 1.9ins wide and stands 8cm / 3.1ins high. It weighs in at a respectable 44.6g / 1.5oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the underside of the base, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter m for 1929 and the C B & S in a shield makers' mark for Cooper Brothers & Sons Ltd.

Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the toast rack.
