Description

A very distinctive oval shaped George V Sterling Silver Napkin Ring from the 1920s. The ring is made by Birmingham silversmiths Adie Brothers Ltd and dates to 1927. Adie Brothers were formed in 1906 and remained under the control of the Adie family until they were absorbed into British Silversmiths in the 1960s.

The Napkin Ring is an unusual shape, being a flattened oval with a decorated rim on both sides. It is made from a good gauge of silver and feels nice and weighty in the hand. It is in good condition with no dings or dents and only superficial wear such as you would expect after 93 years.

The Napkin Ring is 5.3cm wide, 2cm deep and 2.7cm high. It weighs a very respectable 24.0g of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on one end of the ring, which are well struck and clear to read, are the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "C" for 1927 and the A Bros Ltd makers' mark for Adie Brothers Ltd.
