Description

This is a good quality Art Deco Tea Set & Tray from the 1930s. The set comprises a teapot, sugar bowl and milk jug and is accompanied by a matching tray. The set has the sharp geometric design associated with Art Deco, the tea set being hexagonal and the tray octagonal.

The set is made by Poston Products Ltd, a company founded by A.E. Poston in the late 1920s and is part of their Lonsdale Plate series, which they launched in the early 1930s. The company continued in business up until the late 1950s.

The set is in very good condition with no dings or dents and no plate loss. The bakelite handle and finial on the teapot are in good condition and remain cool to the touch even when the contents are hot. There is some surface scratching to the tray, as you would expect from having the other three pieces carried on it, but there is again no plate loss.

The teapot is 18.5cm high to the top of the finial and 24cm from spout to handle. The sugar bowl is 7cm high and 17.5cm wide from handle to handle. The milk jug is 6.4cm high and 15.3cm wide from spout to handle. The octagonal tray is 31.2cm in diameter. The complete set weighs approx 1.85kg.
