Description

This is a charming Edwardian Sterling Silver Miniature Rocking Chair. The chair is of a cane style with a woven seat and back, typical of ones you might find in an Edwardian conservatory.

The rocking chair is made by London silversmiths Saunders & Shepherd and assayed in Chester in 1905. Cornelius Saunders & Frank Shepherd registered their first mark in 1878. They had a showroom in London's Holborn Circus, which was home to many silversmiths and jewellers. The firm made a very broad range of silverware and remained in business up until the Second World War.

Condition is very good with no dings, dents or damage. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The chair stands 4.5cm high, is 3.5cm from front to back and is 1.8cm wide. It weighs in at 10g of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks are on the outside ends of the two rockers and are nice and clear to read. One one side is the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the sword & three wheatsheaves assay mark for Chester and the date letter E. On the other side is the CS and FS to either side of a star makers' mark for Cornelius Saunders & Frank Shepherd.
