Description

This is an elegant George V Engraved Glass Vase with a Sterling Silver rim. The vase is of baluster form on a broad foot with a continuous engraved design of foliage and flowers around the body. The neck of the vase is covered with a stepped silver rim.

The vase is made in London by Corke Brothers & Co and dates to 1914. Corke Brothers & Co had a fairly short existence between registering their mark in 1903 and disappearing during the course of the First World War. They specialised in silver mounted glassware such as vases, perfume bottles, whisky noggins and dressing table and preserve jars. They also produced some elegant brooches and bookmarks.

Condition is good with no chips or cracks in the glass and just a little fogging around the base where the flower stems have sat over the years. The silver rim is a little dented on the top, as is often the case with vases, but still looks smart when the vase is in use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The vase stands 16.2cm / 6.4ins high and is 7.1cm / 2.8ins in diameter across the base. It weighs 186.2g / 6.5oz.

The hallmarks on the silver rim are a little rubbed but still very clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter t for 1914 and the C Brs makers' mark for Corke Brothers & Co.
