Description

This is a smart cased set of six George V Sterling Silver Coffee Spoons in the revived Hanoverian style with a beaded edge. The Hanoverian style was the principal flatware pattern of the 18th century when spoons were laid on the table bowl down and thus have upturned ends to the stems. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The coffee spoons are made in Birmingham by renowned silversmiths Levi & Salaman and date to 1919, just after the First World War. Founded by Phineas Levi and Joseph Salaman in 1870, Levi & Salaman quickly established a reputation for high quality silverware and remained in business for fifty years until they were merged into Barker Brothers in 1921.

Condition is extremely good with no dings or dents and just the minimal superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 100 years of use. The case has a few scuff marks on the outside but is generally fine and the clasps and hinges are in good working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

Each spoon is 10cm / 3.9ins long and the set of six together, unboxed, weighs in at 39.1g / 1.4oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on the undersides of the stems are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter u for 1919 and the L & S makers' mark for Levi & Salaman.
