Description

This is a pretty George V Sterling Silver Thimble. The thimble has the classic dot design over most of the body with a band of flowers around the lower part.

The thimble is made by Charles Horner and assayed in Chester in 1913. Charles Horner is one of the best known and most sought after names in the world of thimbles. Based in Halifax, Horner founded his company in the 1860s and is known for brooches, hatpins and pendants as well as his thimbles. The company continued trading up until the early 1980s.

Condition is good used. This has had a life as a working thimble but remains in overall good condition with no holes or splits and just some surface scratches plus a slightly deeper scratch around the base. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The thimble is 2.1cm high and 1.7cm in diameter. It weighs 3.8g of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks around the bottom are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the sword & three wheatsheaves assay mark for Chester, the date letter N for 1913 and the C.H makers' mark for Charles Horner.
