Description

A typically Art Deco Sterling Silver Toast Rack with a geometric arch and a square handle. The Toast Rack was made by silversmiths F.H. Adams & Holman in Birmingham and dates to 1940. Silver was hard to come by during World War II and pieces from the war years are much rarer than those from the 30s and 50s. F.H. Adams started operating as a silversmith in Birmingham around 1908, becoming F.H. Adams & Holman in 1936 and continuing up until about 1960. They made many different household and personal items of a consistently high quality.

The Toast Rack is in excellent condition with no dings or dents. It sits perfectly on a flat surface and has a nice solid feel to it. It would add a touch of pure Art Deco elegance to any breakfast table or work perfectly on a tray for a luxurious breakfast in bed. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The toast rack is 8.3cm wide, 7.3cm deep and stands 8cm high to the top of the handle. It weighs in at a respectable 81g of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on the side of the base, which are well struck and clear to read, are the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "Q" for 1940 and the F H A & H makers' mark for F. H. Adams & Holman.
