Description

A very stylish pair of Edwardian cylindrical Sterling Silver Salts which unusually have green glass liners rather than the more common blue ones. The salts were made in Birmingham by silversmith William Aitken and date to 1907. William Aitken operated from premises in Vyse Street in Birmingham from around 1890 up until the early 1920s and produced consistently high quality items with a strong design element. These salts have a very modern look to them despite their age.

The salts are in very good condition with no dings or dents and the green glass liners have no chips or cracks. The pair have obviously been well looked after for over 110 years!

The hallmarks, just below the rim on each salt are well struck and clear to read, with one set being a little crisper than the other. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind. They would look stunning on a modern dining table. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The salts are each 3cm high and 5cm in diameter across the base. The silver weight of the pair, without the glass liners is 33.5g. With the glass liners in the pair weigh a total of 90.2g.

The hallmarks are the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "h" for 1907 and the W.A makers' mark for William Aitken.
