Description

This is a substantial early George V Sterling Silver Pepper Shaker made by world-famous silversmiths Mappin & Webb. It is in the Georgian revival style, which was very popular in the early 20th century and features a part reeded bulbous body. The lid also features reeded decoration and a beaded edge. The Pepper Shaker was made in Birmingham in 1912.

Condition is very good. There are no dings or dents and the shaker lid fits securely into the body making it safe for shaking pepper onto your meal. The hallmarks on the front of the body are well struck and clear to read with the exception of the makers' mark which is a little rubbed but still easily decipherable as Mappin & Webb. For confirmation the full Mappin & Webb name is stamped on the base.

The Pepper Shaker stands 9.4cm high and is 5cm across at its widest part. As you would expect from Mappin & Webb it is made in a good gauge of silver and weighs 47.0g.
The hallmarks are the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "n" for 1912 and the somewhat rubbed Mn & Wb makers' mark for Mappin & Webb.
