Description

This is a distinctively Art Deco hexagonal Sterling Silver Napkin Ring. It has engine turned decoration on each panel and "odeon style" decoration on each bottom corner. The cartouche has the initials RSW neatly engraved on it and there is also a date engraved inside of 30.10.38, so it was presumably a gift to RSW at that time.

The Napkin Ring is a well made piece in a very heavy gauge of silver, which dates to 1934, so was obviously made some years before it was presented in 1938. It was made in London by silversmiths Jay, Richard Attenborough Co Ltd - no relation to the famous actor and director as far as I'm aware!

The ring is in very good condition with no dings or dents and just a tiny amount of spotting on the inside which should respond to some careful cleaning.

The Napkin Ring is 4.7cm in diameter and 3.2cm high. It weighs a substantial 46.6g of sterling silver.

The hallmarks are the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the gothic letter "t" for 1934 and the JRA Co Ld in a quatrefoil shape makers' mark for Jay, Richard Attenborough Co Ltd.
