Buchanan and Laing (Prima Finds)

Description

The precise date of this oil on panel painting by English artist John Brown (1867 -1966)isn't known, however he would have been most active through the 1930's and then post WW2 , he died aged 79 in 1966. This is a clever painting, the mood and movement of the landscape are skilfully captured in this distinctive style. Loosely described as trees with a blue sky beyond seems a little lame for a quality picture of this standard. It isn't the biggest painting (12 inches by 9 inches) but it packs a great punch when hung, this is an image that draws you in and stimulates ones imaginings of those breezy sunny days in the country. It is a great landscape picture, with real artistic edge and deserves its excellent gilded classical style wooden frame. The JB initial/monogram is present and it is in ready to hang excellent condition.

John Brown was a well educated painter - Cambridge University and a student at Westminster School of Art, 1926–9, with Walter Bayes. Showed at RBA, RCamA, Paris Salon and Lincolnshire Artists’ Society, sometimes just signing work J B. Lincoln’s Usher Gallery holds his works
