Buchanan and Laing (Prima Finds)

Description

A pair of Art Deco Period superb quality cut crystal bonbon/ sweetmeat dishes, made by Edinburgh & Leith Glass Co, Scotland (1867 - 1955) the mark acid etched on the base which was used between 1927 and 1939 (we believe these particular stemmed dishes are around 1930). The cut is in the style associated with the Art Deco, triangular and geometric cut, albeit not immediately associated with the crystal manufacturers , this design does follow the design trend of the period. The glasses are solid, heavy and certainly designed for serving, we have suggested bon bon but this was still a period when sweetmeats were still part of the language of the formal dinner.

The cut comprises a small 'arrowhead' broken frieze around the rim, the main body has a continuous band of recurring inverted fans with a cross cut linking each fan panel. , the foot is star cut to the underside.

In excellent condition with no chips nor cracks and no dulling of the glass, it is bright crystal clear and crisp clean cut.

Measures approximately 5 1/4ins (13cms) high x 3.75ins (9.5cms) diameter at the rim. Each glass weighs approx 350 gms so are substantial.

Historical note:
The Edinburgh and Leith company traces back to 1773 and only became Edinburgh crystal in 1955 and was taken over in 2006 by Waterford Wedgwood .
