Buchanan and Laing (Prima Finds)

Description

Dating to the 1840/1850 period, a pair of small matching wine jugs, with bulbous body, all over cut with a hobnail design, rising from a scallop short pedestal foot with star cut underside. The neck is panel cut and polished terminating in a single lipped rim. The Jug has a plain crystal swept handle that has a flattened top edge (as a thumb rest) which has been enhanced with a single cut to the rear edge.

The various design elements that make these stand out are certainly the unique foot, the handle treatment and simply the profusion of body cut.

Size: overall height 22 cm and diameter at the belly of the jug 10 cm.

Condition: There is only one issue to report, and it is on one of the jugs only, there is a small loss to one of the scallop edges. it makes this pair one perfect and one slightly imperfect, however they are unusual and as far as we can research quite a rare pair and it would be foolish to separate them. (We have taken into account this downgraded condition in our valuation and pricing).
