Buchanan and Laing (Prima Finds)

Description

A hand made jug and stopper in the form of a small wine decanter, the classic steeple shaped stopper, with a dimple formed lower band. A drawn and splayed ribbed handle attached to a blown and drawn out globe body, formed from a three colour cased glass rod. One can see from the finished bottle that the glass has been skilfully prepared to form round optics on the surface as it is blown and then these are elongated at the neck , the termination of the neck being a three lip fold.

The piece has an optical illusion of almost infinite roundels when looked through, we have endeavoured to accurately capture the effect in the photos.

The use of clear, turquoise and white glass also affords this item a quite interesting and unusual colourway.

Dating is difficult, but given the type of glass, method and effect we would suggest a mid century (1950's) product. It is also unmarked but all indicators place this as a Bohemian glass item.

It is unusual, not a model to be found easily and certainly a different colour to similar pieces.

Size: albeit a wine decanter shape etc. it is smaller than a spirit decanter - it stands 20 cm (7 3/4 inches) high and has a diameter of 9 cm. Unpacked it weighs 295 gm.

Condition: perfect, no issues to report.
