Description

A fine example of a late Victorian claret jug from the Birmingham makers John Grinsell (trade mark of winged archer to the inside of the lid) dates to approximately 1900. The body is a well cut crystal hobnail pattern with two sets of parallel horizontal cuts decorating the plain shoulder. This is an unusual variation on a more common version of this design and is after Christopher Dresser, in this case the cover is a bun or button shape rather than a flat plate. The usual long neck collar, angular closed spout and plain swept handle. The cover has a shell form thumb press. The hinge is designed to stop at the 90 degree , it doesn't fall back to rest on the handle, a sign of genuine attention to detail and quality. The hinge is firm and solid, no wear and is not loose.

The condition is excellent, all metal is without issue, the plate is bright and unworn, the crystal also has no losses nor chips etc. The cover closes flat.

Size: overall height is 9 1/2 inches and the body has a diameter of 5 inches.
