Description

A vintage albeit unused cordial decanter by St. Louis crystal. This is in the famous 'TOMMY' cut, the cut to clear is through cranberry/red to the clear crystal . St Louis has been the premier glass and crystal manufacturer in France since founding in 1586 and subsequently in 1767 becoming a Royal glass works.

This decanter came from a private estate, dates to the mid 20th century, was never used and therefore is in as new condition (including the original label being in tact and present). There is no wear to the foot and no other signs of use. The original box is not available.

Overall height is 255 mm holds approx a quarter of a litre an American half pint.

It was originally the invention in 1928 by Joseph Bleicher and named Tommy on the 10th anniversary of the end of WW1 , a tribute to the English soldiers that had fought in France and warmly referred to as 'Tommy's'. It was a further ten years before this exquisite glassware became such an iconic design. The 1938 gala dinner, held in the Hall of Mirrors in Versaille Palace, for George the VI and Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mother), used Tommy glassware and thereafter the design was elevated to the height of fame and remains some of the most luxurious crystal in the world.
