Description

An Arts & Crafts hammered, highly polished, pewter desk stand (standish), circa 1885. Two screw top ink wells and a fitted stamp box on a curving tray which incorporates a pen channel. Each ink well is specific to the stand, closely fitting into the raised swept gadrooned square sockets, the glass having a stepped base. The glass bottles are also different than most, in that the internal reservoir is shaped with curves almost a pillow form. The tops are threaded brass and both are original and in great order, the original cork pads are still in situ. The central oblong box has a lift off cover and an angled slope for accessing stamps.

High polished pewter is a wonderful material, it looks and presents like its more illustrious silver counterparts and was a favourite material for the high end arts and crafts products, this item is no exception, in fabulous condition and without and damage to either the metal or the glass.
