Description

Antique Tilt-Top Occasional Lamp Table With Commemorative Wooden Plaque c.1870

A charming Victorian tilt-top occasional side table.
Manufactured with a central commemorative wooden plaque from The Crimean War.
The central plaque is inscribed letting us know that this particular piece of inlaid central timber was taken by the Allies after the siege of Sevastopol on the 9th of September 1855. I believe it states that the small piece of timber was part of a larger top table taken.
It is also inscribed telling us the name of the solider who bought this piece of wood back. Although this section is rather difficult to read.
Once back in England this table has been commission made with this piece of timber used as a central inlay decoration.

A really lovely item with plenty of history.
The tilt top mechanism works well and table is sturdy.
Lovely colour all over and sits upon brass claw feet. Beautiful turned central support column.

Height 71.5cm
55cm X 56cm

Height when folded up 100cm

Condition - Good.
Table has some light age related wear and an old repair to the base.
The table top is very natural with lots of ridged and bulges and cracks typical of age and they way it was made.
