Description

Founded in Paris in 1852 by Aristide Boucicaut, Au Bon Marche was the first ever modern department store. This chair, probably dating from the late 19th C, is upholstered in its original fabric, with the underside of the seat having the "Au Bon Marche" stamp on it.
Le Bon Marche Rive Gauche is now a world famous up market store in Paris.

- Original antique french chair, originally sold by Au Bon Marche, Paris
- Solid wooden frame (probably walnut), with much of the original hand painted gilding still present
- Upholstery is all believed to be original - there is some wear and tear, especially on the arms, but it seems a pity to re-upholster such a beautiful chair with this history (please see photos for details of material wear and tear)
- Au Bon Marche logo stamped on the base material

- Dimensions:
Height to top of backrest: 920mm (92cm)
Height of seat: 400mm (40cm)
