Description

Retirement Sale, sale price £225.00

Pair of 19th Century Halifax Whistling Birds.
These rare survivors are examples of slipware with lead & manganese glaze. The birds sit on branches where 4 smaller birds should sit. Unfortunately all small birds are missing which is understandable given the age. The birds are designed to produce a whistle when blown from the tail & the sound represents a cooing pigeon or dove.
Interestingly the birds have the owners initials (ET) on the front.
Condition small birds missing, chip to one beak chibble to other beak. All shown in photos.
Size height 9.50", max width 6.75"
