Description

After PIERRE PHILIPPE THOMIRE (1751 - 1843)

A fine pair of chiselled gilt bronze and patinated bronze "winged sphinxes", after the French sculptor Pierre Thomire. The winged sphinxes in black patinated bronze are lying on an oblong base in chased and gilt bronze. Decorated with a mask of Apollo with foliated scrolls and a frieze of egg and dart. The quadripod-shaped irons are enriched with a flame and a covered urn. Second half of the 19th century.
Dimensions, 36cm wide and 30cm high. Condition is very good overall. Some wear to the gilding.
