A Breach of Promise by walter dendy sadler original artists remarque etching signed in pencil by the artist dendy sadler and by james dobie the etcher,lovely good strong drypoint etching by this well known victorian genre painter of legal humorous sociaty,paintings etchings prints etc.first issue etching housed within the original victorian hardwood frame under glass,the print will be supplied with a new mount /matt.very good strong rich impression still in the original hogarth frame.very decorative legal picture depicting a couple dressed up to visit a laywers office to settle a legal dispute over a preach of promise,
19th c black and white print showing the mid victorian fashions of the period.The etching has full margins with a remarque to the centre of the bottom margin

The mount has some spotting so will need a new mount

Walter Dendy Sadler (1854-1923) was an English painter Dendy Sadler was born in Dorking, a market town in Surrey in southern England, and brought up in Horsham Sussex, England, where he showed a precocious talent for drawing. At age 16 he decided to become a painter and enrolled at Heatherly's School of Art in London,studied in Germany under Burfield and Wilhelm Simmler. He exhibited at the Dudley Gallery from 1872 and at the Royal Academy from the following year through to the 1890s. He was a member of the RBA, he also exhibited at the RA (Royal Academy). He painted contemporary people in domestic and daily life pursuits, showing them with comical expressions illustrating their greed, stupidity etc. One of the true masters of domestic genre His subjects were usually set in the late eighteenth or early nineteenth centuries.
