Original mezzotint of Robert Burns by Sir Frank Short after the oil painting by Alexander Naysmith,This lovely original Mezzotint print is signed in pencil by the artist Sir Frank Short it was published by Robert dunthorne of Liverpool and London on the 25 th Jan 1893.
The Mezzotint print is framed in the original late Victorian period Hardwood frame with gilt inner slip still retaining the original Victorian glass still sealed within the frame behind the original backboard.

Sir Frank Short 1857-1945 was elected ARA in 1906 when the rank of associate-engraver was revived. As head of the Engraving School at the Royal College of Art, South Kensington, he had great influence on younger engravers. Short was elected to the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers in 1885, and took a prominent part in conducting its affairs. In 1910 he succeeded Sir Seymour Haden as president. He received, amongst other distinctions, the gold medal for engraving at the Paris International Exhibition, 1889, and another gold medal (Rappel) 1900. His work as a watercolour painter was officially recognized in 1917 when he was elected a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours. He was knighted in 1911.
