Here we have for sale this striking late Victorian pre Shelley Wileman & Co "Empire Shape" falling daisies plate with beautiful Aesthetic influenced design of naturalistic flowers on an elegant white background.

Condition report:

In very good condition for its age of approximately 120 years, no chips of cracks, a little wear to the gilt rim and slight discoloration plus slight firing error on reverse of the plate, please see the above photographs, overall a delightful example.


History

Wileman & Co were established in 1872 when James Wileman and Joseph Ball Shelley became partners at the Foley Potteries, Stoke on Trent. The business later became the world renowned Shelley brand. Wileman retired in 1884 but Shelley retained its Wileman name until 1925 when the name changed to Shelley.

A superb late Victorian cabinet plate that make a fantastic gift or an ideal addition to any fine porcelain collection.
