Description

Exceptional well-proportioned, premium quality, French polished slate / rouge marble striking mantel clock, with classically elegant architecture, by Japy Frères et Cie.

As was the trend in French mantel clock production during the mid-19th Century, this wonderful clocks’ case was designed and sculptured by an expert stone craftsman with the initials ‘E.C.’, whilst clock manufacturer and movement were provided by world-famous clockmakers Frères and Co.

• Black slate with variegated rouge marble embellishment to the sides and plinth.
• Breakfront stepped frontage.
• Two-piece, white enamel and brass dial with jewelled visible Brocot escapement.
• Black painted Roman numerals.
• Original pair of blued Straight Breguet hands secured with a pinned collet.
• Thick bevelled glaze mounted in its hinged moulded brass bezel.
• Hinged and bevelled glazed rear door, mounted in a brass bezel.
• High-quality Japy Frères circular 8-day pendulum driven movement.
• Backplate stamped with the sculpturers initials (E.C) and serial numbers, together with the Japy Frères et Cie 'Grande Medaille d’Honneur' 1855 trademark, helping to date the clock.
• Mechanism strikes the hours and half-hours on its nickel ‘ting bell’.
• Comes with an authentic French pendulum and a winding key.
