Description

A magnificent carved oak fire surround made in ther 1890's.
On each side is a pillar with carved friezes and a decorative pannel, on the left depicting music and the arts and on the right depicting science and technology. Above this is a small mantlepiece at each end of which is a small cupboard. The cupboard doors each have an inset pannel with a styalised floral design carved on it. The cupboards have locks and there is a key. Between the cupboards is a frame for a decorative pannel or tiles. The original pannel has been removed. The frame has a viewable opening 87cm wide by 26cm high. On top of the cupboards is the mantlepiece. This is made of a solid plank of figured oak with a decoratively carved surround. The fireplace opening is 96cm high and 92cm wide.
