Description

A Rare 17th Century Bristol Blue Dash Adam & Eve Delftware Charger

A rare addition to any collection ,Bristol manufacture circa 1700.

Eve stands with her hair around her waist passing Adam an apple with the snake twinned around the branches and trunk of the tree, this depiction of Adam and Eve is taken from the print by Crispin De Passe in 1635,with sponged foliage with striking crisp colours in blue, green and red on a white tin glaze, the back washed in a sparse tin glaze.

In restored condition, which has been done to a very high standard and displays perfect, there is a very slight rim hairline at the top but it is minimal.

This charger shows Adam and Eve in the same pose as in No.C26-1931 in the V&A museum and No.1401 in the Glaisher collection.

Exact picture references can be found in English Delftware in the Bristol collection by Frank Britton pages 58-59.
