WW2 LeCoultre military Air Ministry pocket watch

1 of 4
WW2 Jaeger LeCoultre military Air Ministry pocket watch.
The watch has a calibre 467/2 15-jewel stem-winding movement, which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the Jaeger LeCoultre name.
The watch measures 51mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is chrome plated and there is some rubbing on the back of the watch. As well as the military arrow and Air Ministry mark, 6E/50 (Air Ministry issue code for observer’s pocket watch, 1939-1945), there are also other words scratched into the surface, namely, ‘sig 49 sqdn’, ‘49 sqdn sig’ and ‘6E’.
49 Squadron was a squadron of the Royal Air Force formed during World War I, re-formed in the build up to World War II. The squadron flew Hampdens, Manchesters, and Lancasters, participating in various bombing campaigns, including the attack on the Renault works at Billancourt, Paris, and later took part in Britain's Atomic and Hydrogen bomb programme. The "sig" for 49 Squadron refers to the 49 Squadron Association, a group formed to maintain contact and share information about the squadron's history and personnel.
The glass lens is in lovely condition.
The dial is in its original finish with original hands. There is some age related speckling across the dial, possibly old oil. Note, no luminous paint on the dial and hands as this was for aviation purposes, the more common GSTP versions have luminous detail.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.
The international buyer is responsible for paying any import duties and taxes.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
