Vintage 1950s German Educational Poster Educational poster volk und wissen poster
The large lithograph on paper, mounted on linen with aluminium dowels, depicts the Wasserfrosch (Waterfrog) in anatomical form, part of Volk und Wissen’s skeletal plates of verterbrates, published in 1952.

Designed by Curt Scholze, the plate is in good overall order with some creases that would eventually drop out and some light fading to the paper. Hanging on dowels, it can be transported easily and was of course designed to roll up in the classroom. Volk Und Wissen, or The People’s Knowledge, is a German publishing house specialising in educational matter, founded in 1945 in both Berlin and Leipzig, Germany.

Now recognised as a salient piece of graphic design, this sizeable educational plate is, dare we say it, exorbitantly cool.
