The case is hallmarked London 1882
The hallmark includes Benson's mark, JWB.
Includes original Benson Pocket Watch Box
Dial Signed Benson, London.
The fusee movement is signed:
"J W Benson
62&64 Ludgate Hill
London
Watchmaker by Warrant to the Queen & The Prince of Wales"
The box also has the same address.
To open the front cover, press the winder and the cover springs open. When closing the cover, press the winder to avoid the click. This will prevent further wear to the cover where the steel clasp meets its rim. The rim is quite worn there.
To set the hands to the time, open the front cover. Then open the glass at 6 with your thumbnail. The glass is quite secure so you may need a small case opening tool or a thin blade to do this. Then, with turn the hands with the key on the nut at the centre where the hands meet.
To view the movement. open the front cover and glass, and lever the movement by pressing in the lever at 6.
To wind the movement, lever open the back with your thumbnail and use the key to wind the movement.
The box is quite worn but it is still sound and keeps the watch in good condition.
The silver case has no personal inscriptions.
The dial is a crisp white with no hairlines.
The movement has been serviced and is working well and you can expect the timekeeping to be within 5 minutes per day.
The movement is guaranteed for 12 months.
A lovely example of an all English watch from the late 19th Century.
