Victorian Mahogany Sarcophagus Tea Caddy
This attractive antique tea caddy dates from the mid-nineteenth century. It has a nice sarcophagus shape with mahogany veneers and a fitted interior. The caddy retains its original mahogany tea cannister with a hinged lid and the remains of its original lining. It has a moulded glass mixing bowl on the other side, but we believe this to be a replacement. The caddy is supported on bun feet and has turned handles at either side. It retains its lock but please note that no key is present.
Condition: Overall in good condition with some wear consistent with age and use. The caddy has some knocking and wear to the woodwork as might be expected and is overall a little faded. There some wood shrinkage splitting to the lid, and some veneer chipping and loss to the front corners of the lid. There is also some shrinkage splitting to the base. The lining inside the lid of the caddy has some wear and loss. The tea cannister also has some significant loss to the lining. As is mentioned above the glass mixing bowl is a replacement and no key is present.
The approx. measurements are as follows:
16cm high, 25cm wide, 14cm deep (to maximums) Further images are available. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any queries. Viewing is welcome, but please contact us before travelling as we are only open by appointment.
We can arrange delivery of both smaller items and furniture - please contact us for details and a quote. Customers are also welcome to use their own couriers if preferred.
