An extremely rare and possibly unique pocket watch by important maker Vacheron & Constantin, Geneve. An early example of the iconic 'jump hour' complication of which V&C were pioneers during the 1820s and 1830s. A high quality gold case with black enamel in a floral design to the front, back, sides and to the button. The watch comes with an enameled chain of the same design. I have personally seen almost identical case and chain design, as part of the Patek Phillipe Museum collection in Geneva, attributed to an unkown Swiss maker. A silvered dial with subsidiary seconds and an outer minute track, indicated by a blued steel 'moon' hand. An hour indicator at 12 o'clock, showing the hour with an Arabic numeral. Both dials are covered by separate glasses with bezels. Signed to the back cover by makers and numbered 24879. This number is signed to the case back inner, mechanism cover and mechanism. An ultra thin mechanism with a quarter repeating function striking on two gongs. A plunge pendant activates the quarter repeating function. This watch also bears a strike/silent function to avoid accidental use. This design is illustrated on V&C's website and is an important part of their history. The 'Saltarello' model still pays homage to this early accomplishment and is a sought after wristwatch model. This watch comes complete with an extract from the Vacheron & Constantin archives.
